Compusult Enhances Technology for Global Defence and Security Clients
Through $1 Million Provincial Government Investment

Compusult Limited, a leading information technology company in the province, is enhancing its commercial software to offer a valuable database management tool that will give customers better and quicker access to geospatial information.

With a $1 million contribution under the Aerospace and Defence Development Fund, the Provincial Government is supporting the company's latest product expansion, which will broaden its product line and capabilities for international customers in military, defence, security, aerospace, government, and industry sectors. Compusult is recognized internationally for its advanced geospatial portal solutions, with clients such as the United States Department of Defense, United States Geological Survey, and Australian Department of Defence.

"Compusult maintains its international competitiveness by continuing to innovate and add value to its specialized products," said the Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Business. "Compusult's software solutions are tried-and-true, and the Provincial Government is pleased to support the company's growth and advancement of its geospatial technology infrastructure as it further enhances its position in defence, aerospace, security, and other key markets."

The company is building upon its flagship product, Web Enterprise Suite, to create an enhanced Web-based system that allows defence agencies and other users to access, analyze and share many different types of location-based information and services, such as maps, satellite imagery, aerial photos, and sensor observations. The system, called C-PORTS, will be able to be used with standard Internet browsers and will provide a single point of access to different data sources, without the user having to operate multiple systems at once.

"With the Provincial Government's contribution, Compusult will continue to broaden its capabilities for international customers," said Barry O'Rourke, President of Compusult. "C-PORTS will be a significant enhancement to our existing product line. It will allow us to offer new solutions to our current client base, as well as target new international aerospace and defence clients and markets that Compusult has been developing."

The product expansion initiative will see the company grow, creating a targeted 36 jobs over five years, including 18 new positions in the next two years. These will be highly skilled, well-paying positions, including software engineers, engineering technologists, web designers and technicians.

Earlier this year, Compusult marked its 25th year in business in Newfoundland and Labrador. The company's head office is in Mount Pearl, with other locations in Halifax, Ottawa, and Washington, DC.

"I am pleased to see that our government has offered support to assist Compusult in achieving its goal in further developing and building on the geospatial technology they currently provide to their customers," said Steve Kent, MHA for Mount Pearl North. "Investing in local companies is important to our government. I wish Compusult all the best as they continue to excel as leaders in their field."

The Aerospace and Defence Development Fund is designed to support companies involved in aerospace and defence related activities in Newfoundland and Labrador to expand capacity, enhance their competitiveness, and avail of new business opportunities. Budget 2010: The Right Investments — For Our Children and Our Future allocated $2 million under the fund this year.

"Newfoundland and Labrador's aerospace and defence industry supplies a diverse range of products and services to international markets," said Minister Wiseman. "Through the Aerospace and Defence Development Fund and other business development programs, our government will continue to facilitate opportunities that grow the industry's capabilities and export revenues."
