Newfoundland Labrador Housing:
Contract Awarded for
Renovations on Greenwood Crescent
A social housing complex in Mount
Pearl will soon receive an upgrade after Newfoundland
Labrador Housing (Housing) awarded a $443,000 contract
to G.S. Hunt Ltd. of Bell Island to renovate the 14
semi-detached units on Greenwood Crescent.
"The Williams Government has shown
once again its steadfast commitment to providing
sustainable, affordable housing in our province," said
the Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation
and Works and Minister Responsible for Housing. "Our
recently released Social Housing Plan for
Newfoundland and Labrador Secure Foundations is
yet another example of this governments efforts to
improve the housing circumstances of lower-income
households and help create healthier communities."
The renovation work to these dwellings
will include the complete replacement of roofing,
siding, windows and doors, and basement wells where
required. Ventilation systems such as bathroom exhaust
fans and kitchen range hoods will also be replaced.
"This notable
investment is much appreciated by all involved," said
Steve Kent, Mount Pearl North MHA. "These renovations to
Greenwood Crescent will ensure the longevity of this
very important component of our social housing
community."
These current upgrade and repairs are
part of Housings annual Modernization and Improvement
Program, to which the Provincial Government infused an
additional $14.5 million in Budget 2009: Building on
Our Strong Foundation for building, renovating and
retro-fitting social housing infrastructure throughout
Newfoundland and Labrador.
The anticipated completion date for
this project is November 2009.
