New Harbour Barrens to Get Facelift

A smoother ride awaits motorists who utilize the New Harbour Barrens highway thanks to the 2009-10 Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

Tenders have been called to upgrade, pulverize and repave a section of the New Harbour Barrens as part of the $70.7 million roads program. The Provincial Roads Improvement Program is part of the $300 million investment in transportation infrastructure committed to in Budget 2009: Building on Our Strong Foundation.

"This will be a busy summer for construction crews as the Williams Government has placed a priority on transportation infrastructure like no other government in our provinces history," said the Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works.

"I am very pleased that the travelling public in Trinity-Bay de Verde will be positively impacted by these improvements," said the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Trinity-Bay de Verde MHA. "This investment will benefit both residents and visitors alike, and provide an economic stimulus to the area."

The Provincial Roads Improvement Program will create an estimated 1,400 person years of employment and is part of the Provincial Government's infrastructure strategy, valued at more than $4 billion over the next several years.
