Williams Harbour Residents Receive Transportation Aid

The Provincial Government will provide assistance to residents of Williams Harbour, Labrador who are stranded due to ice conditions.

With ice breaking up in the bay, ferry and snowmobile travel is now impossible, so the Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works, announced effective immediately, the Provincial Government will subsidize airline travel for residents of the community.

As this government did back in January, we are pleased once again to provide this assistance so the people of Williams Harbour are free to travel as necessary, said Minister Taylor.

The Provincial Government will pay 50 per cent of the cost of commercial airline travel between Williams Harbour and Port Hope Simpson, once a week, for all residents of Williams Harbour. This subsidy will end when the ferry service commences June 9.

The program is being administered by Air Labrador (1-800-563-3042) and the Local Service District (924-0287), on behalf of the Department of Transportation and Works.
