Government in Home Stretch on Phase III of Trans Labrador Highway
A tender for construction of the second
last section of Phase III of the Trans Labrador Highway (TLH) has been
issued by the Provincial Government.
As part of the tender, approximately 30 kilometres of Route 500 will be
built this year, from Cartwright Junction to Goose Bay.
"It is satisfying to know that our government is getting closer to
finishing the TLH with every tender we issue," said the Honourable
Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works.
The Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Labrador Affairs, noted that
completion of Phase III of the TLH is a firm commitment made by the
Provincial Government through the Northern Strategic Plan for Labrador.
"Residents in Labrador have been patient and they are being rewarded as
completion of Phase III rolls along," said Minister Hickey.
This year, the Provincial Government will invest approximately $32.5
million to complete Phase III of the TLH. In the coming weeks, tenders
will be issued for the construction of another bridge and the final 20
kilometres of road.
As part of Budget 2009, the Williams Government is investing over $300
million in transportation infrastructure. The Provincial Government's
infrastructure strategy is valued at more than $4 billion over the next
several years.
