Road Improvement Momentum Continues

The Williams Government has issued another tender for road work as it continues to roll out the 2009-10 Provincial Roads Improvement Program, valued at $70.7 million.

Projects have been announced in the districts of Conception Bay East-Bell Island and Cape St. Francis.

"Once again this year, our government is making significant investments to ensure the provinces roads remain safe and reliable," said the Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works. "Thats why as part of Budget 2009, we are committed to investing over $300 million in transportation infrastructure."

In Conception Bay East-Bell Island, tenders have been issued to upgrade and repave sections of Bennetts Road, Beachy Cove Road at Tuckers Hill and Portugal Cove Road; and in the district of Cape St. Francis the existing culverts at Coakers River on Old Marine Drive will be replaced.

The Provincial Roads Improvement Program will create an estimated 1,400 person years of employment and is part of the Provincial Governments infrastructure strategy, valued at more than $4 billion over the next several years.
