Out More Road Work
The Williams Government is continuing its pledge to
provide safe and efficient transportation networks throughout the
province by issuing further tenders under the 2009-10 Provincial Roads
Improvement Program for work in three areas of the province.
These latest projects will benefit Grand
Falls-Windsor-Buchans, Fortune Bay-Cape La Hune and Harbour Main.
"We recognize the importance of highways and trunk
roads in developing the economy in Newfoundland and Labrador," said the
Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of Transportation and Works. "That
commitment is evidenced by this years $70.7 million roads program."
The following projects have been tendered:
In Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans, approximately 3.2
kilometres of the Bay d'Espoir Highway will be pulverized and
repaved;
In Fortune Bay-Cape La Hune, approximately 3.65
kilometres of the Bay d'Espoir Highway will be pulverized and
repaved; and culverts will be replaced at Southeast Brook, Little
River and near Pool's Cove Road; and,
In Harbour Main, 3.6 kilometres of the Avondale
Access Road and 3.1 kilometres of the Holyrood Access Road will be
pulverized and repaved.
The Provincial Roads Improvement Program will create
an estimated 1,400 person years of employment and is part of the
Provincial Governments infrastructure strategy, valued at more than $4
billion over the next several years. As part of Budget 2009, the
Williams Government will invest over $300 million in transportation
infrastructure.
