The Williams Government continues its aggressive plan
to stimulate the economy by issuing tenders for roof replacement at five
Provincial Government buildings.
"This government is taking a proactive approach to
maintaining our public buildings," said the Honourable Trevor Taylor,
Minister of Transportation and Works. "These alteration projects will
ensure the long-term viability of these important structures."
The Department of Transportation and Works has issued
tenders to replace roofs at the College of the North Atlantic campuses
in Grand Falls-Windsor, Baie Verte and Clarenville, as well as the
Gander Arts and Culture Centre and the highway depot in Grand
Falls-Windsor.
"The Williams Government recognizes it is prudent to
invest strategically in these challenging economic times," said Minister
Taylor. "Thats why we are investing approximately $800 million in
infrastructure this fiscal year, doubling last years expenditure."
The Provincial Government will invest $130 million to
address repairs and maintenance to public buildings in 2009-10 an
increase of $30 million from last fiscal year. In total, government will
invest in excess of $4 billion in infrastructure projects over the next
several years.
