Public Advisory: Nonia to Provide Service for
Green Bay Area
The Honourable Trevor Taylor, Minister of
Transportation and Works, announced today that the M.V. Nonia
will leave Bell Island and provide temporary service to the Green Bay
area as soon as ice conditions in that region permit.
Residents of Green Bay have been without a ferry since
the M.V. Hamilton Sound struck a rock last Friday. The M.V.
Flanders will continue to provide service to Bell Island in the
interim and it is expected that the Beaumont Hamel will join that
run in the coming days when it returns from refit. The Marine Division
of the Department of Transportation and Works expects that the M.V.
Nonia will be in Green Bay for a couple of weeks until another ferry
returns from repairs.
The Provincial Government will continue to provide
helicopter service to the residents of Green Bay until the M.V. Nonia
arrives.
"We are making the best of an unfortunate situation,"
said Minister Taylor. "The bottom line is we needed to take this
temporary measure to ensure ferry service for the people of Little Bay
Islands and Long Island."
