Media Advisory: Across the Polar Sea Exhibition to Open at
The Labrador Interpretation Centre, Saturday, September 12, 2009

Media are advised that the exhibition Across the Polar Sea: With Robert E. Peary of the North Pole Expedition will be on display at The Labrador Interpretation Centre from September 12 through November 1, 2009.

Across the Polar Sea: With Robert E. Peary of the North Pole Expedition is a special travelling exhibition which consists of 33 enlargements of hand-tinted lantern slides used by Donald B. MacMiillan in subsequent lecture tours. The majority of the images are his own photographs, augmented with a few taken by other members of the expedition including Robert E. Peary, his assistant Matthew Henson, and one of MacMillans Inughuit companions. The texts accompanying the beautiful images are MacMillans own words. The exhibition is on loan from the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum.

In addition to the exhibition of Across the Polar Sea, The Labrador Interpretation Centre will also display David Blackwoods painting, Home from Braggs Island, a recent donation to the province from BMO Financial Group in celebration of Newfoundland and Labradors 60th anniversary of confederation with Canada. Home from Braggs Island will be on display until April, 2010.

Media are invited to view both exhibitions during The Labrador Interpretation Centres normal hours of operation: Wednesday through Sunday, 1:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. (closed Mondays and Tuesdays).
