Publishers Assistance
Program Provides $200,000 Investment
The book publishing
industry in Newfoundland and Labrador has once again
been provided with $200,000 through the annual
Publishers Assistance Program (PAP), which is designed
to help local publishers produce and market high quality
materials for a provincial, national and international
audience.
Its no secret that Newfoundland and Labrador has
produced, and continues to produce, talented writers in
many genres, said the Honourable Clyde Jackman,
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. This
funding is designed to support publishers in their
efforts to provide staff with professional development
opportunities, and to improve the editing, design, and
marketing of their book products, to ensure our writers
works are presented in the best possible way.
The Publishers Assistance Program was introduced as
part of the provinces cultural strategy,
Creative Newfoundland and Labrador (2006). The five
local publishing companies approved for support in 2009
are:
Flanker Press
$47,940
Breakwater Books
$46,060
Creative Book Publishing
$43,540
Boulder Publications
$35,340
Rattling Books
$27,120
The Publishers
Assistance Program is a component of the Cultural
Economic Development Program (CEDP), which in 2009 is
providing more than $2.8 million in support to arts,
cultural and heritage organizations, community-based
projects, and individual artists throughout Newfoundland
and Labrador.
