Over 40 Communities Benefit from Investment in Recreation Infrastructure

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, was in Torbay today to announce that, through the 2009 Community Capital Grant Program (CCGP), $559,900 has been allocated to support renovations and upgrades to recreation and sports infrastructure in 41 communities throughout the province.

"By investing in our infrastructure, we are fulfilling one of the key objectives of the provincial recreation strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador," said Minister Jackman. The Community Capital Grant Program is an application-based program that provides grants of up to $15,000 to assist community-based recreation organizations improve their recreation and sport infrastructure. Torbay Mayor Bob Codner also welcomed the announcement.

"This is another fine example of the excellent financial support the Provincial Government provides to municipalities such as the Town of Torbay," said Mayor Codner. "Sincere appreciation is also extended to MHA Parsons for his continued support and cooperation."
