Air Gun Competition, Match Bulletin

The Newfoundland and Labrador Shooting Association (NLSA) is hosting the final 10-metre ISSF Air Rifle and Air Pistol competition for the 2008-09 season, on May 30, in the Frank Zahn High Performance Marksmanship and CSCA Training Centre, School of Human Kinetics and Recreation room PE-1002. Both ISSF events are divided into mens 60 shot and womens 40 shot, following the ISSF rules and regulations. ISSF events will be shot on a combination of electronic targets and target carriers. Equipment is available to borrow. Pellets may be purchased on site or shooters may supply their own .177 cal.

Also, this is the final trials match for the Provincial Junior Team 2009 -10. Junior athletes with birth dates between 1991 and 1998 inclusive attaining a minimum qualifying score, in an ISSF event, will be eligible for a partially funded position on the Provincial Junior team 2009-10.

Shooters off the Avalon may elect to shoot at another site but must make arrangements with the match chair first.

Pre-registration is required, please contact match chair Dave Woolridge prior to May 29 at dave.woolridge@mi.mun.ca or 778-0405.

Entry Fee: $10.00 for one event $15.00 for two, plus NLSA membership (if not already a member). Individual NLSA membership is $20.00 or $2.00 if attained through membership in an affiliated club. Memberships can be done prior to shooting the competition.

Eligibility and selection process:

The NLSA Provincial Junior Shooting Team consists of eight able bodied athletes, four male and four female, divided evenly between rifle and pistol. To become a member of the provincial junior shooting team the candidate must be born between 1991 and 1998 inclusive.

The selection process requires the shooter compete in a minimum of two designated air gun matches held between January and June. We will announce these matches on the provincial government media release site and by e-mail. Successful shooters must meet or exceed the stated Minimum Qualifying Score (MQS)* on at least one of those matches. Shooters who meet these requirements will begin training as the provincial team.

Should the number of athletes attaining their MQS by the end of the selection period for a discipline exceed the number of available team spaces, then in October they will be invited to compete in a closed team trials. At which point the top two shooters in that discipline will be named as the travelling team and thereby eligible for the Grand Prix grant for that season.

A shooter may try out for both pistol and rifle but if successful may only hold one spot (either air pistol or air rifle) on the team.

*MQS subject to annual review at the NLSA fall board meeting.
