NL Shooter Sets Two Provincial Records at European Competition

Brenda Greene, of St. Josephs - St Marys Bay, has returned to Germany competing in the 3rd annual International Shooting Competition of Hannover in Germany (www.i-s-c-h.de). This year 1,100 aspiring and respective national team shooters from 23 countries came together to compete in 13 Olympic shooting events.

For the second time this season, Greene has reset the provincial record for womens air rifle shooting with a 387 / 400. This score put her in 34th place in the overall standings and is a top half finish. In the womens 50 metre prone event, she finished 48th out of 64 competitors with a 579 / 600. On her third consecutive day of competition, she shot the 50 metre 3 X 20. With a score of 562 / 600, she set another provincial record for herself in this competition. This placed her 46th in a field of 62 competitors. Overall, Brenda has been shooting significantly better than she did this time last year.

Currently Brenda trains at the Frank Zahn High Performance Marksmanship and CSCA Training Facility, located in Memorial Universitys School of Human Kinetics and Recreation. She is coached by both Gary Piercey and Dave Woolridge.

Brenda began shooting with the Enwright Memorial Army Cadets in St. Catherine's. She is a two time Canada Winter Games athlete and with a bronze medal in the women's rifle team event in 2003. This February she took a silver medal as an expert at the Canadian Air Gun Grand Prix in Toronto. There is no doubt that Brenda is the top ISSF (International Shooting Sports Federation //www.issf-shooting.org/ ) rifle athlete in the province today.

Coach to and teammate of Brenda, Dave Woolridge said, "I have been training with Brenda for many years now. She is bar none the best small bore target shooter in the province."

As a result of her performance at last years ISCH, Brenda was offered a position on Canadas CISM (Conceil International du Sport Militaire, //www.cism-milsport.org/eng/001_HOME/001_homepage.asp ) development shooting team. Brenda is using this match to hone her skills for the CISM trial in Fort Benning Georgia, this June. Success at the trials will earn her the opportunity to represent Canada at the CISM World Championship in Zagreb Croatia this August.

On Tuesday Brenda will be in Plzen, Czech Republic competing in the same three events at the 40th Grand Prix of Liberation.
