Sport Newfoundland and Labrador announced the recipients of scholarships/bursaries during the 18th Annual Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Scholarship Presentation during a reception at the Powerplex in St. Johns today (Thursday, April 30). Twenty-two recipients received a scholarship/bursary in the amount of $500 for their contribution to sport during 2008. One recipient received the Frank T. The Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Scholarship/ Bursary Program is designed to provide financial assistance to qualifying amateur athletes, coaches and officials (who are enrolled in a post secondary institution) to help offset the costs of training and competition.

Sport Newfoundland and Labrador President, Doug Fowler says, "Again this year we are extremely pleased with the quality of applications received by the scholarship committee. The amount of time these athletes, coaches and officials dedicate to their sport while maintaining excellent grades is outstanding and we are pleased to be able to assist them."
