The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Provincial Basketball Championships

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association will see 70 teams competing this weekend May 1-3 for the �U15 Provincial Boys and Girls Championships�.

On the East Coast, Beaconsfield of St. John�s will host the Boys �A� event, St. Francis of Harbour Grace will host the �B� while I.J. Samson of St. John�s entertains the �C� division. On the girls side it will be St. Kevin�s of the Goulds hosting �A�, Carbonear Collegiate hosting the �B� and Baltimore of Ferryland will host the �C� division. For the West Coast Championships it will be Exploits Valley of Grand Falls Windsor hosting the Boys �A� while Lester Pearson High of Wesleyville will host the B division. Gander Collegiate will host the girls �A� division while Mealy Mountain of Happy Valley Goose Bay will play host to the �B� division.

Over 1000 athletes will take part in their provincial age classification this weekend�. the final weekend of the season for Provincial Championships. Play gets under way on Friday afternoon and will conclude with the championship games Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon.
