Bateman Get to Know Contest to launch at
The Rooms, this Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Today, Earth Day, The Rooms along with other public museums, zoos and aquaria across Canada, will launch the Robert Bateman Get to Know Photography, Art and Essay Contest. The Rooms, along with artist Elayne Greeley and several local schools will participate in the national Get to Know program by hosting students as they draw inspiration from the museums natural history exhibition and prepare submissions for this national contest.

Robert Bateman, one of Canadas foremost wildlife artists, launched the program in March 2000 to engage students in nature and raise a generation of Canadians who will passionately care for the environment. The art and photography portions encourage students to depict and reflect on their environment, while the writing component provides students the opportunity to write about the future they would like see for the planet. Winning submissions will be published in the 2010 Robert Bateman Get to Know calendar.

The Robert Batman Get to Know Contest closes May 27, 2009. Information and contest rules can be found by visiting www.therooms.ca/schoolsandkids .
