The following is being distributed at the request of School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador:

Sport Newfoundland and Labrador - School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador Male and Female Wrestling to be Held This Weekend in Stephenville

School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador gets back on track with its winter programs this coming weekend as the wrestlers take to the mat vying for team and individual glory. Stephenville High School is the host school for the event which will see a total of 64 male and 47 female wrestlers competing..

Schools registered for the event include Stephenville High, Carbonear Collegiate, Holy Trinity High (Torbay), Crescent Collegiate (Blaketown), St. Paul�s Intermediate (Gander), Roncalli High (Avondale), Templeton Collegiate (Gilliams), St. James High (Port Aux Basques), Main River Academy (Sops Arm), Corner Brook High and Piccadilly High.

Team and individual champions will be crowned in both boys and girls divisions. The team champions are determined based on the points earned in the top 10 weight classes for each school.

Individual competitors for boys will be contested in 18 weight classes including 36 kg, 38 kg, 40 kg, 42 kg, 46 kg, 49 kg, 52 kg, 55 kg, 58 kg, 62 kg, 66 kg, 70 kg, 74 kg, 78 kg, 82 kg, 86 kg 95 kg, and HWT.

The female wrestlers will compete in 16 weight classes including 36 kg, 39 kg, 41 kg, 43 kg, 45 kg, 47 kg, 50 kg, 53 kg, 56 kg, 59 kg, 62 kg, 65 kg, 68 kg, 71 kg, 75 kg, and 80+ kg.

The official weigh-in for all wrestlers will be Friday 4:00 p.m. � 5:00 p.m. The competition kicks off 10:00 a.m. Saturday and runs throughout the day.

In its continuing effort to emphasize sportsmanship, School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador, are sponsoring the Sportsmanship First Program. In addition to the Team Sportsmanship Banner, each team will nominate an individual player to receive an individual sportsmanship medal. The top teams will be awarded with gold and silver medals, while the top team will also receive the coveted Championship Banner. Individual winners will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals.

R.B.C. is a major partner of School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Wrestling.
