Right To Know Week 2009

To celebrate Right to Know Week, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner will participate in a number of public events during the week of September 28 to October 2, along with several other sponsoring organizations.

The purpose of Right to Know (RTK) Week is to raise awareness about peoples right to access government information, while promoting freedom of information as essential to both democracy and good governance.

In 2009, the Canadian RTK Week will take place from September 28 to October 2. This year marks the fourth year that Canadians have celebrated RTK Week, and there are a great number of events planned coast to coast, including several in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Commissioners Office, along with Canadian Association of Professional Access and Privacy Administrators (CAPAPA), the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), College of the North Atlantic (CNA), and Memorial University of Newfoundland will host an information booth at the MUN University Centre, 2nd Floor, on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Representatives from the Commissioners Office will also participate in Access to Information presentations to students, staff and the general public at two CNA campuses:

  • Wednesday, September 30, Stephenville, DSB Fowlow Building, 2-3:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 1, Corner Brook, 141 OConnell Drive, Lecture Theatre, 2-3:30 p.m.

The goal of RTK Week is to raise global awareness of individuals right to access government information and to promote access to information as a fundamental human right.
