Public Advisory: Public Asked for Information in Moose Shooting

The Department of Natural Resources is asking the public to provide information on a moose shooting that occurred in a residential area in the Town of Paradise on Wednesday, November 11.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m., the department responded to a report of a moose shot in the town. The injured moose ran into a backyard where it succumbed to its injuries. Under the Wildlife Act, it is illegal to discharge a firearm within 300 metres of a dwelling. The use of a firearm in a residential area is a threat to public safety.

The department is continuing to investigate the incident and is seeking the assistance of the public. Anyone with information is asked to contact the department at 709-729-4180, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary at 709-729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can be provided to Newfoundland and Labrador Crime Stoppers Website at www.rocktips.ca.
