Tree Planting Benefits Trinity North

Approximately 390,000 new tree seedlings are now growing on 156 hectares of land in the Trinity North area as part of the 2009 Provincial Silviculture Program.

"Silviculture is an important part of the successful management of our forests," said the Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Minister of Natural Resources and Minister Responsible for the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency. "Through these projects, we are ensuring the viability of the forest sector for years to come."

The area benefited from two planting projects this year at a total value of $58,000.

The first project involved the planting of a variety of tree seedlings, including black and white spruce, Norway spruce, white and red pine and eastern larch. The second project involved the planting of an additional 98 hectares of land with white and Norway spruce. All the seedlings came from the Provincial Tree Nursery at Wooddale.

"Reforestation projects contribute to the continued health of our forests and our communities," said the Honourable Ross Wiseman, MHA for Trinity North. "I am pleased with our governments continued commitment to forest sustainability."

Budget 2009: Building on Our Strong Foundation includes a $10.9 million investment into the Provincial Silviculture Program, a $200,000 increase over last year.
