Public Advisory: Prescribed Burn to be Conducted

The Department of Natural Resources advises that it will conduct an 80-hectare prescribed burn starting Monday, September 21, weather permitting, at an area referred to as Saltwater Pond. The site is located approximately 14 kilometres northwest of the community of Hampden and 24 kilometres inside the Clam Pond access road in Forest Management District 16.

This burn is being conducted as part of a silviculture management activity to prepare the site for planting and to eliminate the threat of adelgid, a naturally-occurring forest pest which limits tree growth. The prescribed burn will take one to two days to complete. If weather conditions are not favourable on Monday, the burn will proceed on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday when conditions permit.
