Board Members Elected

The board of directors of the Municipal Assessment Agency is pleased to announce the election of the municipal representatives on the agency�s board of directors. �The election process was quite successful with 31 candidates for the six positions and 83 per cent of municipalities casting ballots,� said nominating committee chairperson Harry Hallett. �I welcome the new representatives and congratulate all the candidates.�

Elected for a four-year term, beginning in January 2010, are:

Labrador Deputy Mayor Terry Hancock, Forteau
Western Mayor Dean Ball, Deer Lake
Central Councillor Randy White, Comfort Cove-Newstead
Eastern Mayor Fred Best, Clarenville
Urban Councillor Peggy Roche, Torbay

The Avalon election resulted in a four-way tie. A runoff election will be conducted in January 2010, between four candidates:

Councillor Deborah Quilty, Paradise
Mayor Betty Moore, Clarke�s Beach
Deputy Mayor Paul Davis, Conception Bay South
Councillor Gerald Greenland, Bay Roberts

The Municipal Assessment Agency provides real property assessment service to 228 municipalities across the province. Its board is representative of the agency�s stakeholders with six municipal representatives, two taxpayer representatives, and a representative from Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Professional Municipal Administrators.
