Residents Reminded to Turn Their Clocks Back

Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador are reminded to turn their clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 1, at 12:01 a.m. to reflect the return to Newfoundland Standard Time (NST). This change will remain in effect until March 14, 2010.

As a result of the time change, it will be darker when children are finishing school and individuals are leaving work, said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Municipal Affairs (Acting). Everyone is reminded to stay safe, slow down on the roads and take extra precautions where individuals may be walking or crossing the street.

This time of year also provides a good opportunity to check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and change batteries to ensure that homes are equipped in the event of an emergency situation.

A recommended practice is to conduct a home safety check to ensure that detectors are in good working order, and be prepared to respond in the event of a fire or emergency event, said Minister Hedderson.
