New Fire Truck for St. Josephs

The St. Josephs Fire Department will receive a new tanker truck, with the Provincial Government contributing 90 per cent of the cost.

"The Provincial Government is pleased to provide funding to aid the Town of St. Josephs in purchasing a new fire truck," said the Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services Newfoundland and Labrador. "This funding is part of our governments plan to enhance fire protection services throughout the province by contributing to fire truck and equipment purchases."

The new truck will be cost-shared at a 90/10 ratio between the province and the town. The Provincial Government will contribute $206,443, while the municipality will add $22,938. Including the utilization of a GST rebate of $10,619, the total cost of the truck is approximately $240,000.

"This state of the art fire truck is a great addition to the fire protection services of St. Josephs and the surrounding communities of St. Marys Bay North," said Felix Collins, MHA for the District of Placentia - St. Marys. "With this purchase and other much needed equipment allocated to the fire department and region in the past year, residents can look forward to much enhanced fire protection services."

The truck purchase is part of the $1.7 million allocation for fire equipment in the 2009-10 Municipal Capital Works Program.
