The Peterview Fire Department will receive a new fire
truck, with the Provincial Government contributing 90
per cent of the approximate $260,000 cost.
"Our government is pleased to partner with the Town
of Peterview to purchase a new fire truck," said the
Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Municipal Affairs
and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services
- Newfoundland and Labrador. "The new fire truck will
provide residents with enhanced fire protection
capacity. Our government remains committed to enhancing
fire protection services throughout the province by
contributing to projects like fire truck acquisitions,
personal protective equipment purchases and fire hall
construction and repair."
The new truck will be cost-shared at a 90/10 ratio
between the province and the town. The Provincial
Government will contribute $223,646, while the
municipality will add $24,850. Including the utilization
of a GST rebate of $11,504, the total cost of the truck
is approximately $260,000.
"The Town of Peterview has been in need of a new fire
truck for some time and this announcement will of course
enable them to provide the essential fire protection
services the town requires," said Clayton Forsey, MHA
for the District of Exploits. "I want to thank the
minister and the staff of Fire and Emergency Services -
Newfoundland and Labrador for making this partnership
and project a reality."
This purchase is part of the $1.7 million allocation
for fire equipment through the 2009-10 Municipal Capital
Works Program.
