The Town of Flatrock will receive
$213,400 to support road upgrading and paving through
the Provincial Governments Municipal Capital Works
Program.
"Safe, secure roads are an essential
component of strong, viable municipalities," said the
Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Municipal Affairs.
"It is important that we continue to invest in road
maintenance and upgrades to ensure that residents and
visitors to the province have secure road transportation
routes available to them."
Funding will support road upgrades and
paving on Deer Marsh Road, Everson Place, and Three
Island Pond Road in the Town of Flatrock, and will
reduce ongoing maintenance costs to the town.
"I am very pleased to see Flatrock and
other towns in my district continue to benefit from our
governments Municipal Capital Works Program," said
Kevin Parsons, MHA for the District of Cape St. Francis.
"The funding provided under the Provincial Governments
program has made it possible to pave over 90 percent of
the roads in Flatrock."
In Budget 2009: Building on Our
Strong Foundation, the Provincial Government made an
unprecedented multi-year commitment of a 69 percent
increase in municipal capital works funding for fiscal
years 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11. This commitment
increased the capital budget by $34.4 million annually,
bringing the total annual Provincial Government
commitment to $84.3 million.
The Provincial Government's
infrastructure strategy is valued at more than $4
billion over the next several years. Provincial
infrastructure projects totaling $1.6 billion will be
tendered this fiscal year, creating an estimated 15,000
jobs (some seasonal) and providing significant economic
stimulus to the economy of Newfoundland and Labrador.
