Town of Springdale to
Benefit from
Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund
The Town of Springdale will undertake
improvements to its municipal water and sewer systems, thanks to a
contribution of more than $528,000 through the Canada-Newfoundland and
Labrador Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF).
The funding was announced today by the Honourable Keith Ashfield,
Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA);
the Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Municipal Affairs; and
Springdale Mayor Harvey Tizzard.
The project will allow the town to upgrade the water and sewer servicing
to 30 households along Bayview Road, from Juniper Road to Poplar Road.
"These upgrades to the town's water and sewer infrastructure will
enhance the community's water supply and sewer systems," said Minister
Ashfield. "The Government of Canada is pleased to provide just over
$176,000 for this project. Our goal is to keep Atlantic Canada moving
forward by investing in projects that improve municipal infrastructure,
enhance the quality of life of residents and make everyday life better
for all Canadians."
"This project will improve efficiencies and secure water and sewer
services for the Town of Springdale, and supports efforts to deliver
modern, reliable municipal services throughout Newfoundland and
Labrador," said Minister Whalen "We are pleased to invest over $213,000
to support the strengthening of municipal infrastructure for residents."
"The project will see upgrades to the sewer system, and much-needed
upgrades to our existing water distribution line," said Mayor Tizzard.
"We are also pleased that with the installation of new fire hydrants we
have been able to extend the fire-safety of these neighbourhoods in our
community."
"I am extremely pleased that all levels of government have come together
to contribute to the upgrading of these essential services for the Town
of Springdale," said Kevin Pollard, MHA for Baie Verte - Springdale.
"Such enhancements result in a tremendous convenience for our residents,
while also adding to their safety and well-being."
The Government of Canada is contributing $176,289, and the Government of
Newfoundland and Labrador is contributing $213,310. The Town of
Springdale will fund the balance of $139,269.
The Canada-NL MRIF Agreement is administered jointly by the Department
of Municipal Affairs on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and
Labrador, and ACOA, on behalf of Infrastructure Canada.
