Funding Announced for Water and Sewer Upgrades in Burin

The Town of Burin has received $146,127 through the Municipal Capital Works (MCW) program for water and sewer improvements. The MCW program fosters the development of cost-shared projects in a wide range of municipal infrastructure, including water and waste water treatment, roads, recreational facilities and fire equipment.

"The Williams Government is committed to ensuring that municipalities have access to safe and reliable infrastructure," said the Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Municipal Affairs. "I am pleased that through this funding, important improvements have been made to the areas water and sewer system."

Through the 2008-09 MCW program, $61.2 million will be spent on many infrastructure improvement projects province-wide. Under the program, the Provincial Government will contribute $32.4 million; the Federal Government will contribute $12 million and the municipalities will contribute $14.1 million. Towns will also utilize the Federal GST rebate as part of the capital cost.

"Recent improvements to the Towns lift station will greatly improve Burins water and sewer system," said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, MHA for Burin-Placentia West.  "Our government strives to ensure that our residents have access to reliable water and sewer infrastructure and I am very pleased with todays announcement.
