Senior Appointments Made for Corrections

The Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, today announced senior appointments which will further enhance the revitalization of the corrections system in Newfoundland and Labrador. Graham Rogerson has been appointed Superintendent of Prisons and Donald Roche has been appointed Assistant Superintendent of Her Majesty�s Penitentiary in St. John�s.

"The leadership of Mr. Rogerson and Mr. Roche has already proven instrumental in revitalizing the corrections system of Newfoundland and Labrador," said Minister Marshall. "Both of these individuals have demonstrated a commitment to changing the system for the betterment of staff and inmates. They have been leading forces in implementing the recommendations of the independent review of adult corrections and have a long-term plan for corrections in the province. I congratulate them on their appointments."

Mr. Rogerson has served as Superintendent of Prisons since being appointed in an acting capacity October, 1 2008. Mr. Roche has been serving in an acting capacity as Assistant Superintendent of Her Majesty�s Penitentiary since October 10, 2008.

Biographical information

Graham Rogerson

Graham Rogerson began his corrections career at the Labrador Correctional Centre in 1984. In 1992 he transferred to Her Majesty�s Penitentiary and in 1999 became the first shift captain at the facility. In 2002 he developed the recruit training program and supervised its presentation. In 2006 he became the full-time training and development officer for corrections.

Donald Roche

Donald Roche began his corrections career in 1982 at Her Majesty�s Penitentiary. He has extensive training in suicide intervention and critical incident de-briefing, has been a training and development officer since 2002 and has been involved with staff and recruit training. He achieved the rank of captain in 2005.
