Minister Expresses Condolences on Passing of Former Judge

The Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, today expressed his sympathies to the family and friends of former judge P. Lloyd Soper who passed away Friday, March 6.

"As a young lawyer in Corner Brook I was impressed with the professionalism Judge Soper expected of everyone in his courtroom," said Minister Marshall. "A high standard was expected of all present and his approach to each case exemplified this standard. A well- known patron of the arts, his presence will be missed by both the legal and arts communities of our province. On behalf of the people and Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, I offer our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Judge Soper."

Judge Soper attended both Memorial University and Boston College and received his law degree from Dalhousie University. In 1964 he was appointed a judge in the district court for the judicial centre of Humber-St. Georges and became a justice of the Supreme Court Trial Division in 1988. He retired in 1994.
