Justice January 23, 2009 Public Sessions for Human Rights Code Amendments Announced The Department of Justice is continuing the process of consulting the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador on amendments to the Human Rights Code. Public consultations will take place throughout the province commencing in Happy Valley-Goose Bay January 27. The first step of consultations was the release of a discussion document and Internet submission form on December 10, 2008. "December 10 was the 60th anniversary of International Human Rights Day and on that day we commenced public submissions via the Internet regarding amending the Human Rights Code," said the Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Justice and Attorney General. "Public sessions throughout the province are the next stage of this process and I again encourage interested individuals and groups to participate in these sessions." Individuals or groups interested in making a presentation should contact the Department of Justice at least 24 hours prior to a session at 709-729-2034 or lynnecomeau@gov.nl.ca. As well, the Human Rights Code discussion document and Internet submission forms are available at www.justice.gov.nl.ca/humanrightsreview.
