Long
Cove Tourism Enhancement Project Launched
The Isthmus Area Regional
Development Association, in collaboration with the Long
Cove Harbour Authority, is launching the Long Cove
Tourism Enhancement Project with a $50,660 investment
from the Provincial Government. The projects focal
point is expansion of the Long Cove Marina, which will
enable the community to accommodate a greater number of
pleasure crafts and encourage new economic development
opportunities.
Interest in the province
as a destination for recreational boaters and pleasure
crafts continues to grow, said the Honourable Shawn
Skinner, Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural
Development. To help facilitate local communities
identify and capitalize on opportunities associated with
this growing sector, the Provincial Government continues
to work in partnership with community groups and provide
the resources necessary to improve a communitys
viability in becoming a recreational boating
destination.
Elements of the Long Cove
Tourism Enhancement Project include the addition of
eight docks that can accommodate up to 24 pleasure
crafts, trail improvements to the adjacent Sea View
Trail, and directional signage along the beach area.
Additional beautification initiatives will be undertaken
at the trail head to improve the attractiveness of the
area for visiting boaters.
When completed, this
project will provide excellent docking facilities,
trails and sight seeing opportunities for tourists to
enjoy, said Calvin Peach, MHA, Bellevue. It also
represents the value of various organizations working
collectively to identify measures to grow the areas
tourism capacity.
Long Cove and the
surrounding area are home to many social and cultural
attractions. Through the Long Cove Tourism Enhancement
Project it is anticipated visitors will take part in
many local activities and be encouraged to visit longer
and again in the off-season.
In addition to providing
docking facilities for pleasure craft and tourists, this
project will provide employment opportunities for
residents, said Wilson Callan, President of the Isthmus
Area Regional Development Association.
The Isthmus Area Regional
Development Association is a volunteer organization
committed to regional and community development
representing 10 communities: Chance Cove, Bellevue
