Fall
Schedule Announced for Program
Targeting Manufacturing Sector Development
A popular program that
focuses on providing local manufacturers with insights
into various support mechanisms, improving operational
efficiencies, and opportunities for growth has launched
its fall 2009 schedule.
The Provincial
Governments Manufacturing Insights program provides
participants with knowledge that helps lead to improved
efficiencies, new market opportunities, and ultimately
smarter decision-making. In fall 2009, sessions are
scheduled for Carbonear, Clarenville, Corner Brook,
Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, Labrador City, Marystown,
New-Wes-Valley, and Springdale.
Across the province,
workshop participants have reported that the sessions
provide valuable information for manufacturers, and for
that matter, businesses from a variety of sectors, said
the Honourable Shawn Skinner, Minister of Innovation,
Trade and Rural Development. By creating a platform
where participants can secure insights into available
support tools, opportunities to maximize organizational
efficiencies, and potential partnerships, the Provincial
Government is helping local operators achieve greater
success.
The free sessions are a
half day long and open to all businesses. The sessions
include presentations on available programming, regional
success stories, improving operational efficiencies, and
potential growth opportunities. Sessions also include a
networking lunch.
For anyone looking to
start or grow a business operation, the Manufacturing
Insights sessions will save you time, said Jeff LeDrew,
Owner, Jumping Bean Coffee. There are a lot of
resources and resource people there to help you. I would
recommend these sessions.
The Department of
Innovation, Trade and Rural Development, in co-operation
with Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Business Network
and Canadian Manufacturing and Exporters began
implementing the Manufacturing Insights Initiative in
December 2007. To date, there have been 13 sessions
attracting more than 250 business and community leaders.
Sessions have targeted Argentia, Bay Roberts,
Clarneville, Corner Brook, Grand Falls-Windsor, Labrador
City, Marystown, Springdale, and St. Johns.
"The face of
manufacturing is changing in today's economy and the
province's industry can learn about new tools,
techniques and programs they can use to adapt to those
changing conditions," said Bill Stirling, Vice President
of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, Newfoundland and
Labrador. "We encourage every one to get out and attend
one of these practical sessions over the course of the
fall."
