The Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development (INTRD) is hosting free Selling to the Public Sector Information Sessions in Grand Falls-Windsor on Thursday, April 23, Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Monday, May 4, and Labrador City on Tuesday, May 5. "In collaboration with industry partners, Selling to the Public Sector Information Sessions enable local businesses to identify public sector supply opportunities," said the Honourable Shawn Skinner, Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development. "The public sector is a significant market for local businesses. The Provincial Government itself spends in excess of $400 million annually on the procurement of goods and services ranging from office supplies to educational tools to materials to maintain highways and public facilities." Selling to the Public Sector is presented by INTRD, in partnership with Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters and other industry partners. The Provincial Government launched its first information session in 2005, and to date has attracted more than 700 business representatives to 24 sessions. "The public sector is a large marketplace and we encourage companies to learn more about how to market themselves to government purchasers by attending these sessions," said Bill Stirling, Vice-President of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, Newfoundland and Labrador Division. Information sessions will take place in Grand Falls-Windsor on Thursday, April 23, 8:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m., at the Joe Byrne Memorial Stadium; in Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Monday, May 4, 12:30 p.m. 4:30 p.m., at Hotel North; and in Labrador City on Tuesday, May 5, 12:30 p.m. 4:00 p.m., at the Two Seasons Inn. "The Provincial Government is committed to providing platforms that enable small and medium-sized enterprises with access to important information about how to better sell to governments in all jurisdictions and large procurers of goods and services in the private sector," said Minister Skinner. "The sessions also serve as a forum to help develop partnerships and insights into other support programs that the Provincial Government has available." - 30 -
