Career Work Centre Network Extended to Downtown St. Johns

The Provincial Government continues to extend its network of Career Work Centres throughout the province with todays official opening of a new location at 285 Duckworth Street in St. Johns.

"The Career Work Centres we are establishing will be of great benefit to employers and job seekers as they navigate their way through this current period of rapid economic change." said the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment. "Ensuring Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have access to the employment information and resources they need is a key part of our efforts to ensure the economic well being of the province."

Each Career Work Centre is a community-based resource designed to enhance the employment prospects of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. Services available through the centres include job searching, resume writing, and career planning, as well as supports for entrepreneurs and workshops on labour market trends.

For people seeking a career change or new employment, the centres offer a welcoming environment where they can receive one-on-one support from staff, avail of many different sources of employment information, and use the computers, faxes, and phones that are provided free of charge.

Employers can benefit from the extensive labour market information provided by the centres, which can help them plan for future human resource needs and adjust to todays changing economic conditions. They can also use the meeting rooms provided to conduct interviews for vacant positions or hold workshops, which is particularly useful to small organizations that have limited space.

The expansion of the Career Work Centre Network is supported by a $5.3 million dollar investment that was made in Budget 2008 to assist employers and job seekers. For more information, visit: //www.hrle.gov.nl.ca/hrle/career/cwc.html
