Province Supports Homework Haven Program in Grand Falls-Windsor

The Provincial Government announced today that it will provide $7,000 toward the Exploits Community Centre (ECC) Homework Haven program. The announcement took place today at the Exploits Community Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor.

"It is important for young people to have access to the supports they may need with their studies," said the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment. "This funding will assist in providing our youth with a nurturing environment in which they can focus on their schoolwork after regular school hours."

The Homework Haven program provides volunteer-based homework support to students in Grades K-12. The Exploits Community Centre is a not-for-profit organization that provides social, educational, vocational and recreational programs that assist in enhancing the quality of life for families and individuals living in the Grand Falls-Windsor and Bishops Falls area.

"Investing in our youth is an investment in our future," said Ray Hunter, MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor/Green Bay South. "Programs like Homework Haven provide an excellent opportunity to encourage and support the young people living in our region."

"Our community benefits when we can work together with government to provide a supportive environment for our youth to learn and grow," said Heather Fudge, Executive Director, Exploits Community Centre. "The Homework Haven program provides a positive experience, assisting youth in reaching their potential."
