Update on H1N1 Mass
Immunization Clinics
The Honourable
Jerome Kennedy, Minister of Health and Community Services, today
provided an update on the status of H1N1 mass immunization clinics
throughout the province in light of changes to the high risk groups
identified yesterday.
The Provincial
Government announced yesterday that, due to a reduced amount of vaccine
available to the province by the Federal Government in the coming week,
H1N1 vaccinations would be limited to the following high-risk groups:
-
Children six
months up to 59 months (up to fifth birthday)
-
People five
years of age up to and including 24 years of age with chronic
conditions
-
Pregnant women
in the second half of their pregnancy (20 to 40 weeks)
I am pleased to
advise that immunization clinics throughout the province have been
running smoothly today and that those identified in the high risk groups
yesterday are in fact receiving the vaccine, said Minister Kennedy.
We have had no major issues today and thank the public for their
co-operation in ensuring that our limited vaccine supply is being
utilized by those who need it most.
Minister Kennedy
advised that the province still has a vaccine supply and that clinics
will continue tomorrow. Again, H1N1 vaccination will be limited to the
high-risk groups listed above and will be strictly enforced.
Information
regarding clinic times and locations is available on Regional Health
Authorities websites.
