Public Advisory: Update on Human Swine Influenza
The Department of Health and Community
Services would like to notify the public of the latest information
pertaining to the Human Swine Influenza. To date, there are no reported
cases of human swine influenza in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Public
Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has confirmed there are now six confirmed
cases of swine flu in Canada � four in Nova Scotia and two in British
Columbia.
The department is working with the PHAC and other provinces and
territories to closely monitor the situation. Heightened surveillance
protocols are in place across the province.
If you have just returned from Mexico or the United States, and are
exhibiting flu-like symptoms, you should contact your health care
professional. Ensure you disclose your recent travel history. Your
doctor will determine what, if any, testing you require.

The Department of Health and Community Services will continue to work
with the Public Health Agency of Canada and will provide updates when
necessary.
The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Health and Community Services,
and Dr. Faith Stratton, Chief Medical Officer of Health, will be
available to the media today (Monday, April 27) at 11:30 a.m. outside
the House of Assembly.
