Government Services July 20, 2009 Debit Card Payments Now Available for Vehicle Renewals Vehicle owners have another option for paying for their vehicle registration renewals. The secure e-services website now allows for debit card payments along with the previously offered payment through credit cards. "One of the goals of this Provincial Government is to offer more services online and provide customers with enhanced options when conducting business with government," said the Honourable Kevin O�Brien, Minister of Government Services. "We have heard from our users that aside from paying for vehicle registration renewals in person and by credit card online, they wanted a debit payment option online as well. We are pleased that we are able to offer this option especially for those people who do not own credit cards." In order for customers to pay via debit card, they must have existing access to online banking with one of the following four banks which offer online debit card service: BMO, Royal Bank, Scotiabank and TD Canada Trust. Online debit card payment has a number of advantages including; The application of this new online banking technology, fundamental to allowing the public to make online payments using debit cards, was developed and implemented by the Office of the Comptroller General (Department of Finance) in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Information Officer. Motor Registration Division is the first Provincial Government service to avail of online debit card payment. In addition, customers who pay for their vehicle registration online via debit card, will also receive the 10 per cent online discount. This means that a $140 annual vehicle registration paid online will cost $126.
