Department to Hold Public Sessions on New Electrical Code

The Department of Government Services will hold public sessions throughout the province throughout May and June to provide information on the new 2009 Canadian Electrical Code. The new code will be enforced in the province as of June 29, 2009.

"The Canadian Standards Association updates the electrical code on a three-year cycle and it is then adopted by provincial legislation, that is, the Electrical Regulations under the Public Safety Act," said the Honourable Kevin OBrien, Minister of Government Services. "These updated requirements will apply to all electrical work for permits issued on or after June 29. I would recommend that all electrical contractors attend one of the public sessions to ensure that they understand the new requirements."

The public sessions will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. for each of the following dates and locations:

  • May 19 - Grand Falls-Windsor, Mount Peyton Hotel
  • May 20 Gander, Albatross Hotel
  • May 21 Clarenville, Clarenville Inn
  • May 25 Mount Pearl, Pearlgate Track and Field Building
  • May 26 Carbonear, Fongs Motel
  • June 8 Stephenville, Holiday Inn
  • June 9 Port aux Basques, Hotel Port aux Basques
  • June 10 Corner Brook, Greenwood Inn
  • June 11 Plum Point, Plum Point Motel
  • June 24 Labrador City, Two Seasons Hotel
  • June 25 Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Hotel North
