Grand Falls-Windsor Company Sentenced in Provincial Court

The Department of Government Services announced today that JEB Enterprises Ltd. was sentenced in Provincial Court on February 16, 2009 upon pleading guilty to one violation of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Four charges were laid by the Occupational Health and Safety Branch in August and September of 2008 due to non-compliance with occupational health and safety legislation.

In November 2006 an inspection was conducted by an officer of the branch while construction work was being done on a building owned by JEB Enterprises Ltd., a Grand Falls�Windsor company. That inspection uncovered violations of fall protection and scaffolding regulations. No accident or injury had occurred.

The company pled guilty to the charge of failing as a principal contractor to ensure that workers performed work on the project in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations. The company was fined $2,000, in addition to a victim fine surcharge of $300. The three other charges were withdrawn.
