Media Advisory: Speakers to Address the
Prevention of Violence Against Children at Provincial Conference

The Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services, will deliver the opening address at the fourth annual provincial Violence Prevention Initiative Stakeholders� Conference tomorrow (Tuesday, November 17) at 9:15 a.m. at the Holiday Inn in St. John�s. The event will take place in Salons B, C and D.

Media are also invited to attend the following sessions of the conference:

9:40 a.m. Keynote Presentation: The Impact of Children Witnessing Violence � Gary Direnfeld, Ontario social worker with 27 years experience working with children and families. He has a weekly parenting column in his city's daily newspaper as well as his own reality show working with newlywed couples.

1:40 p.m. Keynote Presentation: Beyond Borders & Cybertip.ca � Rosalind Prober, founder of Canada�s national tipline to report online sexual victimization, cybertip.ca. Her activism resulted in the Prober Amendment to Canada�s child sex tourism legislation in 1996 and the founding of Beyond Borders, a non-profit organization working to stop global child sexual exploitation.
