Media Advisory: Province to Host COF Symposium on Labour Force Participation

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment, will welcome delegates to a Council of the Federation (COF) Symposium on Labour Force Participation on Tuesday, June 23. The event will take place at the Sheraton Hotel, St. Johns.

Beginning at 8:30 a.m., Premier Williams will provide opening remarks to the conference. Following the Premier, Minister Sullivan will present to the delegates, concluding at approximately 9:15 a.m.

Members of the media are invited to attend the Premiers and ministers remarks. Media will be required to register prior to 8:30 a.m. and check out by 9:30 a.m. The registration table will be in the Sheraton Hotels main lobby.

In July 2008, Premiers attending the Council of the Federations fifth annual summer meeting in Quebec City agreed that a range of initiatives are required to attract and retain more people in the labour market and address labour shortages. This symposium will bring together experts and policy stakeholders to consider effective ways to share knowledge and improve labour market participation. The symposium will also profile best practices contained within Newfoundland and Labradors Poverty Reduction Strategy.
