Recognized with Public Service Award of Excellence
The recipients of the Public Service Award of
Excellence were recognized today (Tuesday, June 16) at a ceremony at the
Sheraton Newfoundland in St. John�s. The Awards of Excellence were
presented by the Honourable Jerome Kennedy, Minister of Finance,
President of Treasury Board and Minister Responsible for the Public
Service Secretariat, and Gary Norris, Clerk of the Executive Council.
The individual award recipients are:
Elaine Clarke (Commission of Inquiry on

Cecilia Converse (Department of Education)
Ken Hannaford (Department of Transportation
and Works)
Dave Murphy (Department of Education)

"This year's recipients of the Public Service Award of
Excellence exemplify excellence in service delivery, leadership,
innovation and relationship building," said Minister Kennedy. "I
sincerely commend them for their dedication and the service they
provide. On behalf of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, I thank them
and wish them continued success."
The Public Service Award of Excellence is the highest
honour an employee can receive from the Government of Newfoundland and
Labrador. Open to all employees, this award highlights excellence and
outstanding job performance at both individual and team levels. It
celebrates the exceptional work, commitment and creativity of employees
who are making a notable contribution to the people of Newfoundland and
Labrador.
"This is a very special form of recognition for many
in the public service because individuals are nominated by supervisors,
staff and peers in recognition of the contributions they make to the
workplace and the province as a whole," said Mr. Norris. "I sincerely
congratulate those recognized today with the Public Service Award of
Excellence."
Since June 2001, when the award was launched, there
have been more than 400 nominations. Fifty-four individuals and 25 teams
have been recognized with the Award of Excellence.
