Media Advisory: Minister to Meet with EU Embassy Representatives on Seal Hunt

The Honourable Dave Denine, Minister for Intergovernmental Affairs, is in Ottawa to meet with representatives of the embassies of several European Union (EU) member states to discuss the seal hunt and the proposed ban on seal products by the EU. These meetings build on the Provincial Government�s ongoing efforts to ensure that EU member states are well informed about the seal harvest and its important implications from both an economic and fisheries conservation perspective.

The minister is in Ottawa, today (Thursday, April 16) and tomorrow (Friday, April 17), to meet with representatives of the embassies for Portugal, Latvia, Austria, Ireland, Greece, Netherlands, Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Switzerland. His schedule is as follows:

Thursday, April 16

  • Shelly Tracey, Consular and Deputy of Missions, Portuguese Embassy
  • Ambassador H.E. Margers Krams of Latvia
  • Ambassador Werner Brandsetter of Austria
  • Ambassador Declan Kelly of Ireland

  • Ambassador Wim J.P. Geerts of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

Friday, April 17

  • Ambassador H.E. Stanislav Opiela of Slovakia
  • Ambassador Karel Zebrakovsky of the Czech Republic
