Premier Expresses Condolences to Family of Newfoundland and Labrador Soldier

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of three Canadian Forces soldiers in Afghanistan. One of the soldiers, Corporal Kenneth Chad OQuinn, was born in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and spent his childhood there.

"Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to the families and friends of these three valiant men," said the Premier. "Their selfless commitment to securing peace and freedom will not be forgotten. Personally, and on behalf of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, I extend condolences to the family of Corporal OQuinn. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and those of his comrades."

Flags at Confederation Building will be flown at half-staff to honour Corporal OQuinn. He will also be remembered through the bronze plaque honouring all Canadians who served in the Afghanistan conflict. Premier Williams unveiled the plaque at the National War Memorial in St. Johns in 2008. The plaque is a memorial to honour soldiers who served and sacrificed their lives in the Afghanistan mission.
