February 12, 2009Media Advisory: Author Brian
Vallee to Visit Province for Violence Prevention Month
In recognition of Violence Prevention Month, Brian Vallee,
best-selling author of Life with Billy and War on Women,
will be touring various regions of the province starting Sunday,
February 15 in Stephenville.
Mr. Vallee will speak on the societal issue of violence against women
through real-life stories and recommendations on what can be done to
tackle this issue. The speaking engagements have been organized by
several of the Violence Prevention Initiatives (VPI) regional
coordinating committees and are open to all interested community
members.
The VPI is the Provincial Government's $9.2-million strategy to raise
awareness of violence, support victims and find long-term solutions to
eliminate violence in Newfoundland and Labrador. One component of the
initiative is a partnership with the 10 regional co-ordinating
committees, which are established across the province to increase public
awareness and accountability, opportunities for information sharing on
best practices and improve delivery of violence prevention services.
