Public Advisory: Seal Lake Zone Opens for Caribou Hunting in Labrador

The Department of Environment and Conservation wishes to advise the public that the Seal Lake zone in Labrador is now open for caribou hunting.

The department has received information that the George River Caribou Herd has moved into this management area. Currently, small numbers of caribou are present in the Orma North zone, as well as the Seal Lake zone. Orma North has been open since October 1.

Caribou movements at this time of the year are extensive and the locations of animals can change daily. The movement of the George River Caribou Herd will continue to be monitored, and additional management areas may open pending movements of animals to those areas.

Hunters are reminded that it is illegal to dispose of caribou remains within 50 metres of the Trans Labrador Highway or in an area visible to the motoring public.
