Environmental Assessment Bulletin
The Honourable Charlene Johnson,
Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced
the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental
Assessment of the Environmental
Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
Bay Bulls Metal Recycling, Processing and Storage
Proponent: NLL Recycling Ltd.

The proposal is to store processed
recycled scrap metal for transshipment through the Bay
Bulls Marine Terminal. The 2.4 hectare site will be used
for the storage of processed scrap metal between
shipments, heavy steel shipping containers and some
miscellaneous equipment. The undertaking is located on
the dump road one kilometer west of Bay Bulls off the
Southern Shore Highway, between the industrial storage
used by the Bay Bulls Marine Terminal and the Waste
Management Site operated by the Town of Bay Bulls.
Construction will consist of site preparation (ie,
clearing vegetation, grubbing, grading, etc.) and
grubbed material will be used to construct a berm around
the fenced perimeter. Construction is expected to take
approximately eight months to complete and is scheduled
to begin in early 2010 (depending upon approval).
The undertaking was registered on
October 28, 2009; public comments are due on December
07, 2009; and the Minister's decision is due by December
12, 2009.
Pinware River - Route 510 (Trans
Labrador Highway) Realignment
Proponent: Department of Transportation and Works
(Reg. 1455)
The proposal is to realign an eight
kilometre section of Route 510 (Trans Labrador Highway)
by constructing a new two-lane asphalt surface highway
near Pinware River. The road will be constructed to a
Rural Local Undivided 80 kilometre per hour design
standard with a posted speed limit of 70 kilometre per
hour. Construction will be carried out over a one year
period with the initial phase and completion scheduled
for 2010.
The undertaking was registered on
October 30, 2009; public comments are due on December
07, 2009; and the Minister's decision is due by December
14, 2009.
